Rak'aa is a prayer companion that counts your rak'aat and keeps your prayer record. It was built on one principle: your worship is your own. Your prayer history never leaves your phone, and there is no account to create.
This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do.
The short version
- We do not collect your data. There is no account, no cloud sync, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
- Your prayer history stays on your device. We never receive it.
- The camera never takes a photo or records video. It is used only as a light sensor.
- Nothing is sent anywhere unless you personally write a message and tap Send in the feedback form.
What stays on your device
Your prayer record. Every prayer you count or mark — the times, the rak'aat, your streaks, make-up (qaḍāʾ) prayers, excused days, and any notes you add — is stored only on your iPhone. It is never uploaded, never backed up to us, and we have no way to see it.
Your settings. Calculation method, madhhab, language, reminders and the like are stored on your device.
Detection logs. To count rak'aat, the app records a small technical log of brightness readings (numbers only — never images). These stay on your device, are automatically limited in number, and are removed when you delete the app.
You can erase your prayer history at any time in Settings ▸ Reset history, and deleting the app removes everything it stored.
Camera — a light sensor, not a camera
To know when you go down into sujūd, Rak'aa reads how bright or dark it is near the front lens. That is all.
- No photograph is ever taken. No video is ever recorded.
- Each frame is reduced to a brightness measurement and immediately discarded.
- No image data is stored on your device or transmitted anywhere.
You may refuse camera access; the app still works and you can count with the on-screen buttons.
Location — used on your phone, never sent
If you allow location access, your position is used on your device to calculate accurate prayer times for where you are. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and it is not stored beyond what the app needs to compute today's times. You can decline it and set your location manually.
Notifications
Adhan alerts, iqāma reminders and closing-time reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No notification passes through any server of ours.
Apple Watch sync
Data passes directly between your own iPhone and your own Apple Watch using Apple's device-to-device connection. It does not travel through us.
Feedback — the only thing that leaves your device
If you choose to contact the developer (Settings ▸ Send a suggestion), the app sends only the text you typed: the category, title and message, plus an optional device note and an optional email address if you choose to give one so you can be replied to.
- Nothing is gathered automatically. The app does not attach your app version, language, permission settings, device model, or any identifier.
- It is entirely voluntary. If you never use the form, nothing is ever sent.
- Submissions are delivered through Google Forms to the developer's own private inbox. Google processes the submission as our form provider; see the Google Privacy Policy.
- Please do not include sensitive personal information in your message.
What we never do
- We do not sell, rent or share your information — we do not have it.
- We use no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not use an advertising identifier.
- We do not create profiles about you.
Children
Rak'aa is suitable for all ages. It collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
Your rights and choices
Because your data stays on your device, you are always in control:
- Delete your history — Settings ▸ Reset history.
- Delete everything — remove the app; all stored data goes with it.
- Withdraw permissions — camera, location and notifications can each be turned off in iOS Settings at any time; the app continues to work with reduced features.
- Feedback you sent — if you would like a message you sent removed, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change with it. If the change is significant, it will be noted in the app's release notes.
